Seeking A Photographer
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and cannot be left to chance, so booking the right photographer with the knowledge and experience to capture your special day should be as important as your dress is to you.
In today's market and with the aid of digital camera's it is easy for many to think that they can turn their hand to becoming a professional photographer over night and charge high prices for poor work and service. Every week a new wedding, or mobile photographer appears making outrageous claims like "I've been photographing people for years", what they really mean is " I've been photographing my family and friends for years, there's a difference!
BEWARE - DON'T LEAVE YOUR VALUED MEMORIES TO CHANCE.
Here are a few useful questions to ask your potential photographer before making your final booking:
Is the work that you are being shown "actually" the photographers work who will cover your wedding?
Is the photographer a full time professional photographer, or a part time one?
How long have they been photographing weddings professionally for?
If the photographer can only give a mobile number then they may not be a full time dedicated professional.
Is the photographer a qualified member of the Master Photographers Association? This will mean they "are" a for full time professional.
Note the SWPP also allow amateur photographers in, it does not mean the photographer is a full time pro, only the MPA do this.
Does your photographer carry indemnity and public liability insurance?
Do they carry adequate back up cameras, lenses etc in case of failure?
Is your photographer local to you, or at least within a reasonable travelling distance?
Can the photographer give names of references within the wedding industry, or past customers?
Most importantly do you like the photographer, after all you will be inviting them to your wedding?
The only way to select your photographer is to view their work and meet them in person, do not go on price alone.
You will always find cheap giveaway photographers but ask yourself why are they so low.
Unless it is vital to you, avoid disk only photographers. This is usually a sign of a non professional and lack of commitment to the profession.
Don't leave your photography to chance and regret it later.
